For whom who loves Studio Ghibli‘s works, you should definetlly come to visit the Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory!
The Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory is the only cafe in Japan that is approved by Studio Ghibli for selling Ghibli related food!
Shiro-Hige, written as 白髭, and pronounced as Shi-lo-Hi-ge, literally means white beard. He is the “owner” of this cream puff factory 👍🏻
How to get to the Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory?
To visit this cafe, you will have to first board the Odakyu train to Setagaya-Daita station (世田谷代田).
Upon arrive at the station, exit from the West exit (西口).
FYI, the station is currently under construction.
After exiting the station, there are two ways to reach the Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory.
First way (What Google map may tell you):
Walk down the street next to the convenient store, LAWSON (the blue one on the left)
Turn left before going to the end of the street
Walk down the street and when you reach another intersection, turn right and continue walking a little, you’ll see the sign of TOLO, which is the cafe on the second floor of Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory.
Other than the route introduced above, there’s another way to reach the Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory.
After exiting the station, you can go a bit further down from LAWSON (the orange ish building at the far end of the photo)
Once you reach this corner, turn right and continue walking all the way down
Walking all the way down you’ll see the TOLO sign at the end
After reaching the sign, you’ll see this European style building on the left.
Both route are only about 3 to 5 minutes walk from the station.
This is where the Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory and cafe TOLO are.
The first floor of the cafe is the shop corner where you can buy the Totoro cream puff for take outs, and on the second floor is the TOLO Coffee & Bakery where you can enjoy their homemade pasta and bread along with the cream puffs.
For whom who doesn’t know about Totoro, please see here. This cute world known character was created by Studio Ghibli’s animator / director, Mr. Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎駿), and the movie was released in 1988.
Enter the cafe and be charmed by all the studio Ghibli’s bits and pieces in the store~
You can see them everywhere, and also the Shiro-Hige’s drawings in the wall. You’ll finally know what Shiro-Hige, the “owner,” looks like. The Shiro-Hige looks very much designed by studio Ghibli as well 🐽

The cafe, TOLO Coffee & Bakery
TOLO Coffee & Bakery accepts reservations as well if you don’t want to wait to enter.
You can also buy some bread to go if you’d like.
The menu changes from time to time, depending on the season and ingredients. Not only the pasta, but also the cream puffs as well 😋
We visited the cafe in August, and from the menu that was available at that time, we ordered “Chicken fillet and green perilla in cod roe sauce.”
And “Spaghetti aglio olio e pepperoncino (Octopus and watercress).”
The pasta were very tasty, with nice chewy homemade spaghetti and fresh ingredients~ the homemade bread was great as well ✨
After lunch, we had the famous Totoro Cream Puffs!
We ordered the all seasoned and most popular flavor: Custard & fresh cream.
With the seasonal flavor (available during July ~ September): Peach cream
We enjoyed them with Ice coffee latte and Ice chocolate 👍🏻
The shop for buying Totoro cream puffs to go
If you don’t have time or the cafe is full, you could buy the Totoro cream puffs to go.
After entering the building, on the left hand side of the staircase, you will find the entrance to the shop, that’s where you can buy the Totoro cream puffs.

Entering the shop area, it is like heaven for Totoro lovers 😍
In the winter, during October to December you’ll see the following flavor of Totoro cream puffs available:
Custard & fresh cream (available all season)
Chestnut cream (available during October ~ December)
Chocolate cream (available all season)
Raspberry & cream cheese (available during September ~ December)
They also have the menu clipped on a cute Totoro clip next to the cashier, with the flavors available underlined.
Other the cream puffs, you can also buy some cute cookies with you 😃
On the wall you can see signs of Mr. Hayao Miyazaki, the director and animator of Studio Ghibli.
Since we visited the shop in Mid-December (the cafe was visited in August), there were many information regarding the Christmas season, and special cakes to order.

The take out box is very cute with an original Totoro sticker!
And inside are the two cute Totoro cream puffs: Chestnut cream and Raspberry & cream cheese.

There is also a small menu inside with the Shrio-Hige’s drawing on it.
The Totoro cream puffs are very tasty, crunchy filled with delicious creams.
The creams are full of taste but not too sweet, matches perfectly with the crunchy texture 👍🏻
This is a cafe and shop 100% recommended for Studio Ghibli’s fans and also cream puff lovers ✨
