If you ask me what is the best manga (comic, 漫画) for basketball, I would say it is SLAM DUNK!
Slam Dunk is about a high school basketball team drawn by Takehiko Inoue during 1990 and 1996.
The main character is Hanamichi Sakuragi. He is a very misbehaved boy with red hair and is unpopular among girls. He was rejected fifty times by girls during middle school 😂
In high school, he met one girl whom he fell in love at first sight. Her name is Haruko; she suggested him that he should play basketball, so he decided to play basketball because of her. Isn’t he very simple? lol
Even though he is a simple minded person, he is very tall and tough, and he also have a good sense for sports. He joined the basketball team of Shohoku High school and…the story begins!
Slam Dunk is a very exciting and amazing story which makes you want to continue reading. If you haven’t had the chance to read it, you should! You can also find them on Amazon!!
The reason why I introduced Slam Dunk is because the railroad crossing at Kamakura-koko-mae station (鎌倉高校前駅) is famous for it.
It takes only 15 minutes, 7 stops by Enoshima Electric Railway (江ノ島電鉄, Enoden) from Fujisawa station.
The Enoshima Electric Railway runs between Fujisawa station and Kamakura station, and Kamakura-koko-mae station is in the middle of the two stations.
So, if you are planning to go there, you should stop by before or after visiting Kamakura.
In our case, we visited Kamakura’s Kamakura Owl’s Forest first then stopped by Kamakura-koko-mae station’s railroad crossing before heading to Enoshima.
Probably a lot of you already know, this railroad crossing is famous for its scene in the opening song of the animation version of Slam Dunk; it is where the main character, Hanamichi Sakuragi, was standing, waiting for the train to pass by. You can see the scene at 1:07.
Kamakura high school was used as a model for Ryonan high school in Slam Dunk where two main characters, Sendo and Uozumi, belonged . Ryonan high school is the rival school for Shouhoku high school, which is where Sakuragi belongs to.
This railroad crossing have been famous for the past few years but it is still very popular especially among visitors from Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. On the day we visited, we saw a lot of visitors there trying to take a picture like how the opening animation looks like.
But just do be aware that it is a street in use, also the train as well; be careful not to cross the street or the railroad crossing when it is not allowed.
Please enjoy and take photos without affecting others.
After stopping by at the railroad crossing of Kamakura-koko-mae station, we continue on to Enoshima.
